Obsession

Obsession

Australian Premiere

"Consistently f**ked up, and I mean that as a compliment." – RogerEbert.com

“Writer-director Curry Barker follows up $800 YouTube hit Milk & Serial with a frighteningly effective, and head-smashingly gory, cautionary tale.” – The Guardian

Curry Barker's Milk & Serial cost $800 and went viral on YouTube. Obsession is a leap forward – a fully realised feature that keeps his internet-native instincts intact, framed in an unsettling style where every shot feels uncomfortably lonely.

Bear (Michael Johnston) is a music store employee and serial romantic daydreamer. When he discovers an antique novelty item called the One Wish Willow, he breaks it and wishes for his childhood friend, Nikki (Inde Navarrette), to love him above all else. Nikki succumbs with terrifying intensity.

Anchored by what reviewers are calling a career-defining performance, Navarrette takes us from rom-com to possession horror to outright psychosexual nightmare. Executive produced by Jason Blum (Get Out, Whiplash, BlacKkKlansman) and winner of the People’s Choice Award at last year’s Sitges Film Festival, Obsession is a warning to be careful what you wish for.
